OverviewsEstablished in 1971. Upgraded in 2000. Renamed in 2004, 2006 The Technology and Science Institute of Northern Taiwan is located on the Kuan Tu plain at the foot of Ta Tun Mountain. The beautiful Tam Shui River flows at the side, and the magnificent mountain changes color according to the different seasons. The green trees and assorted flowers decorate the Institute like a paradise garden. The brilliant views of Tam Shui River, Kuan Ying Mountain, Kuan Tu Bridge, and the prosperous Taipei City are right in front of our eyes. There are subway and buses stations near the Institute, which make transportation very convenient. In the embrace of mountain and river, the spirit of nature will cultivate the promising younger generation, as a truly ideal institute for students. As a result of its outstanding educational achievements, the Institute was upgraded by the Ministry of Education to Kuang Wu Institute of Technology and Commerce in 2000. In 2004, the Institute name was changed to Northern Taiwan Institute of Science and Technology, and, in 2006, its name was again changed to Technology and Science Institute of Northern Taiwan. The chronicle of the establishment of the departments in the past years: 1971 -- Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. 1983 - 1988 -- Established 2-year Junior college program, day program and evening program. 1994 -- Established the Data Management Department and was renamed Kuang Wu Industry and Commerce Junior College. 1995-1999 -- Established International Trade Department, Applied Foreign Language Department, Food and Beverage Department, Business Management Department. In addition, established the annex supplementary school and in-service training class. 2001 -- Established 4-year college, annex Supplementary Education College (weekends and evening class), and 2-year in-service Senior College (evening class), in-service training class. 2002 -- Established Computer and Communication Engineering Department, Data Communication Department, Data Managing Department, Tourism, Food, Beverage, and Hotel Department. 2003 -- Established Graduate School of Combined Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and recruited master program students. 2004 -- Established Finance, Economics, and Law Department; upgraded the Commerce Section to Commerce Department, and changed the name to Northern Taiwan Institute of Science and Technology. 2005 -- Established Biology Technology Department and Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Department. 2006 -- Established Applied Cosmetics Managing Department, and changed the name to Technology and Science Institute of Northern Taiwan. 2007 -- Established Graduate School of Electronic Business and recruited masters program students for Fuel Battery Industry Research and Embedded System of Industry Research. Hence, the Technology and Science Institute of Northern Taiwan is an academic institute with a graduate school, 2-year senior college (junior and senior class), 4-year college, 2-year junior college (freshman and sophomore class), 5-year junior college, day program, evening program, and annex supplementary college. The system and scope are great, so both academic and scientific technology are being advanced. At present, there are three academic blocks: industry block, business block, and humanities block, including 16 graduate schools and departments. This Institute is sincere in carry on education, with a superb faculty, a complete and modern library and equipments, and vibrant students’ counseling and training program -- the excellent results are remarkable. In addition, the board of advisers is outstanding and the financial situation is solid. All of these elements provide strong support for the Institute’s development and provide a perfect place for young men and women to refine their virtues and knowledge. Faculty: There are 388 full time teachers, including 22 professors, 103 associate professors, 50 assistant professors, 205 instructors, and 2 special skill instructors. Among them, there are 215 with master degrees and 148 with doctor degrees. Many teachers have practical experience in business. Departments and Graduate Schools: This Institute is a technological 4-year college, including 2-year junior college (for high school graduate), 5-year junior college (for middle school graduates), 2-year senior college (junior and senior class), college evening division (for on-the-job students), and annex supplementary college.
